Of the millons of 336's made in one variation or another only a relative handful were chambered in 44 mag which was better suited to the shorter action model 1894's....This one is especially unique in this respect. Texan's (strait stock 336's) are themselves not common and are sought after were lst introduced in 1957. In 1963 Marlin chambered the 336 T (Texan) in 44 mag for the lst time and accordind to the definitive book on Marlins (Brophy) the cal was dropped in 1964. Also according to the same souce the saddle ring was lst introduced in 1965 . The serial number on this fine example has the prefix AB which was 1966 2 yrs after end of production (again according the Marlin book) so using a term common to gun manufacturers....likely "Parts Clean Up"....but who knows. In either case a very nice an super attractive example of an uncommon and somewhat rare Marlin. It has a 20" factory barrel with Micro Groove Rifling. In pic # 4 what looks like imperfections in the blue on the receiver is only oil....
