Description:
Up for sale is a Smith&Wesson Model 1917 with a 4 digit serial number ('1458') in very nice condition. This is a late 1917 production revolver. Very early four digit sn on the butt. 'GHS' acceptance for Gilbert H. Stewart on left side of frame near the hammer. Approxmimately, only 1-40,000 had this acceptance stamp.
Frame marking inside the cylinder 'S 38"
Marking on cylinder side is '38'
Cylinder is marked 'S' and '1458' matching the serial number
Cylinder ejector is marked '1458', but I could not get a picture of it
Concentric goove cuts on the hammer with superb color case hardening remailnig(correct for this time period)
Beautiful color case hardening remains on the trigger
Early S&W 'dished' (scallop top grips) which were rounded in 1918 by S&W. No markings on the inside.
I have been asked if it was reblued. It was not sold to me as a reblue. The stamping and lettering is sharp and still quite clear. But, if it was polished and reblued it was very professionally done.
Overall in very nice condition but look at all the pictures and decide for yourself. Rimmed 45's are hard to come these days so I will include (10)
moon clips to use for the 45 ACP. C&R okay as long as your local community will permit....
