Description:
This 1941-42 semi-automatic World War 2 rifle is a Springfield Armory U.S. Rifle chambered in .30M1. It has a fixed blade with protective sides front sight, an adjustable rear aperture peep sight, a smooth curved trigger, and a checkered steel butt plate with a trap door for cleaning supplies. For its age, the metal bluing is in very good condition, with no observable rust or pitting. For its age, the wood is in good condition, with numerous marks and a few chips noticeable. The wood appears to retain much of the cosmoline preservative that it was stored in, as well as areas where the paper it was wrapped in has stuck to the wood. We have chosen not to remove this stuck on paper to keep the condition as original as possible. The bore has significant grease build up, but the rifling is quite pronounced, with no rust or pitting observable. The serial number on the tang is 449460, making its manufacture date in late 1941 or early 1942. It does appear to have been re-barreled at some point with what appears to be "2 - 46" date-stamped to the right side of the barrel. This WW II rifle would make any collector proud to own. .30-06 Springfield
