Colt 1911 SP Target Semi-Automatic Pistol 5" .38 Special US Marked MFG 1917
This is a Colt competition semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. Originally developed by the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, the .38 AMU is a semi-rimmed derivative of .38 special, was better suited for feeding through a single stack magazine and had an extended case wall for semi-wadcutter bullets. The barrel has been rechambered for .38 Special ammunition. Fitted with a patridge blade front sight and Bo-Mar adjustable rear sight, the scarce caliber .38 AMU marking and Rampant Colt on the left side of the slide with the UNITED STATES PROPERTY stamped below on the frame, and the one-line Hartford address on the right. The top of the chamber is marked "COLT .38 AMU", with a "COLT .38 SPEC." marked magazine, serrated hammer, serrated adjustable trigger, arched serrated mainspring housing, stippled front strap and checkered grips.
