Entering service in December 0f 1893 The Model 1893 Mauser was the standard issue service rifle for the Spanish military from 1893 until 1958. Chambered in the 7x57mm smokeless gunpowder cartridge, it was these rifles and their effectiveness against American forces during the Spanish-American War that forced the U.S. military to request a new service rifle to replace their .30-40 Krag-Jorgenson and Springfield Trapdoor rifles (the replacement rifle of course being the 1903 Springfield bolt action rifle).
This rifle was manufactured at the Fabrica de Armas factory in Oviedo, Spain in 1920 and would have been in service during the Rif War in Morocco and possibly the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s.
The rifle is in good condition despite age and likely military service. The receiver and barrel finish are worn but both remain solid and perfectly functional. the bore is clean with good rifling. The stock and forend are in good condition with one small superficial crack near the right side of the receiver. the stock is missing the butt plate and the rifle was modified before being brought into the United States.
