Description:
This is a handsome brass-hilted infantry hanger that measures 26 1/8" overall, with a 20 1/2" single-edged blade having wide fullers and a 4 1/2" false edge. The steel has a pale gray patina overall, with dark specks of plum-brown freckling scattered throughout, but heaviest towards the tip. The ricasso is maker marked on the reverse ("WESTER & CO.") with ("SOLINGEN") opposite. The cast brass hilt has straight, lobe-shaped quillons, and a smooth grip with bird’s head pommel. The brass has an overall yellow-ochre patina, with some bright areas along the grip. The reverse guard has a Zurich cantonal shield, and a serial number in the center ("166"). There is no scabbard. This is arare Swiss marked short sword, in very good-fine condition, and would make a splendid addition to any collection.
