Description:
This is an interesting non-factory conversion of a Colt Model 1851. SN 4149, so a fairly early gun. While most conversions done outside of the factory were quite crude, this one is much more complete. The ejecting rod seems to have a european influence, and works well. The barrel remains in it's factory length, and retains a good amount of rifling. The cartidge is some sort of .38 - possibly .38 Colt? The action functions as it should. The right grip has a silver escutcheon, as well as 3 notches - no doubt this gun led an interesting life. I have not fired it, so if you intend to do so, I can only recommend that you have it looked at by a gunsmith.
