A Collector’s Used; Circa 1950; Serial # K 86,5xx; Smith & Wesson K .22 Target Masterpiece 3rd Model; Pre-Model 17; 5-Screw Sideplate Revolver; 8-3/8 Inch Slightly Tapered Heavy Barrel; Solid Serrated Rib, Windage & Elevation Click-Adjustable Target Rear Sight; 1/8-Inch-Wide Ramped, Pinned Partridge Front Sight; Four-Line Address on the Frame; Large S&W Monogram on the Sideplate; Serrated Front- and Backstrap. The barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” on the Left Side; “*22 LONG RIFLE CTG*” on the Right Side; Standard Width Serrated Trigger; Wide & Deeply Checkered (Low Spur) Hammer; Frame-Mounted Rimfire Firing Pin; Frame-Mounted (fixed) Trigger Stop. The Barrel is Pinned and the Cylinder is Recessed with Matching Serial Number. The Bore is Bright with Sharp Rifling; and the Chambers are Bright and Shiny. The Blued Finish shows minimal wear for its almost 75 years of age. It has the transverse hole through the bottom strap (behind the grip locator pin) as an indication this frame was configured for a lanyard loop before it’s selection as a rimfire-target model. Grips are Late-Model, Oversize, Slim Profile, High-Grade, Border-Panel-Checkered, Diamond Escutcheon-Surround, S&W Monogram with Matching Grain. A cylinder line is visible; bright marks on the cylinder face are powder fouling brushed off during handling and storage. A Burris 2X Scope with Duplex (Thick ‘n Thin) Reticle is mounted in a Leupold Base & Rings. Not being dealers or experts, we estimate this revolver as having approximately 95 - 98 Original Finish, allowing for newer-model grips and the drilled and tapped topstrap for the scope mount. Because of those modifications, the listed price is reduced to below-book value. Condition is best judged from the photos, so please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations.
