Description:
A Collector's Used Remington Hepburn Sporting Rifle in 45-70 Caliber that appears to be an Original No. 3 Sporting & Target Model. It has a 27-¼ Inch (probably designated 28-Inch by the Factory) Full Octagon Barrel marked on the top flat: “E. Remington & Sons. Ilion, N.Y.” and on the bottom flat ahead of the forend "45. 2 7/8" with Serial Number 46XX on the bottom tang. It has a Single Trigger, and all mechanical functions feel tight and operational. The Wood Stock is dark with age; has a Standard Blue Steel Curved Buttplate; and Prince-of-Wales Style Pistol Grip that’s Nicely Border-Checkered. The Wood to Metal Buttstock-Receiver junctions have graceful Oval Transitions. The Barrel has a Drift-Adjustable Front Sight and a correct (replacement-original) rear sight. The Upper Tang has two empty screw holes that look like they once held a Tang Sight. The non-checkered Forend has a Graceful Steel Schnabel-Style Tip. The bore has some pits and linear blemishes; however, the rifling is preserved; and the exterior Blue is in Good Condition. These were supposed to have come from the factory with Case Hardened & Colored Receivers. This one is Blue – an indication that the Receiver and perhaps the Barrel were Reblued. The markings are so well-preserved that whoever did the job was careful in that respect – including with the Buttplate and other metal furniture and parts.
