A Family of Collector's Used Winchester Model 1892 / Model 92 Takedown Rifle in 25-20 Caliber with Full Octagon 24-Inch Barrel. We believe the rifle has been refinished owing to the faint address lines and polishing marks on the barrel that left the top lines pretty much gone, and left the Bottom Line legible as: “NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14, 1884.” The Serial Number 496,2XX on the bottom front of the receiver indicates 1909 as the year of manufacture, and it is faint, too; other markings on the Top Tang and Barrel (Caliber “25-20 W.C.F.”) are sharp and easily legible. The Wood is Straight-Grained, Dark with Age, and in good condition with no checkering on the Stock or Forend. The proper Crescent Steel Blued Buttplate and Blued Steel Forend Cap also appear polished & refinished. Given the partial refinishing of the metal, condition is best judged by the photos. Blue is preserved on the Barrel; and it has pitting as shown in the photo, with rifling still preserved. The rear sight appears original, except for the step-elevator, which we replaced because it was missing. Mechanical functions are tight and secure. Pricing reflects a Modest Premium for the Takedown Feature.
