( Sold ) This is a very sharp, fine Winchester model 1885. It is chambered in the .44 WCF ( 44-40 ). The barrel is a no. 1 weight, measureing a hair under 28". The bore is pristine - excellent, bright, sharp shiny. The rifle has a great balance, just forward of the receiver - and weighs approx. 6 lbs 10oz. on my scale. This is an early High Wall - it has the early features - an unmarked upper tang, with exposed spring screw. It has a Marbles Flex tang sight, and it is excellent under the sight. The hammer stays at full cock position when the action is opened. The rifle has a WP proof on the barrel and the receiver - indicating that it was sent back to the factory to be rebarreled. The lower tang wears a later style serial number stamping of 4959 - this would make the manufacture date 1886. The action is positive, the hammer holds properly at half, and full cock. The wood has an excellent, unsanded finish, showing scattered light marks and normal wear. The receiver has crisp edges, a high percentage of blue and faded case colors on lever and hammer. The barrel blueing looks very nice, with very few minor marks, and some fading in front of the receiver. Overall this is a fine example of a 1885 in a great caliber. **** This is an "antique", and can ship directly to Most states, but not all - some, like NJ may require a transfer through a FFL.
