Bright shootable bore! .50 caliber. Overall: 48 in. Barrel: 30 in. SN # 91234
LAYAWAY?  A Very good to Fine example of a Model 1865 Spencer Army Repeating Rifle, modified post-war at the Springfield National Armory. As Spencer repeating arms became unserviceable after the Civil War, both carbines and rifles were returned to Springfield for alteration. The weapons were bored out, and the original .52 caliber barrels received inserted, reinforced rifle sleeves in the new .50 caliber (.56-50). These "reinforced" Spencer firearms offered higher velocity and greater accuracy for troops. Ordnance Department records indicate that approximately 12,000 Spencer Army rifles underwent this modification at Springfield between 1866 and 1874.
