Description:
Remington BRITISH CONTRACT Pattern 14 ENFIELD Bolt Action Service Rifle C&R

WWI Contract to Supply the British Military!

Here we present a C&R Remington British Contract Pattern 14 Enfield Bolt Action Infantry Rifle, made circa 1916. The primary British contractor of the Pattern 14 was a contractor named Vickers, who was unable to produce more than a handful of rifles, so the Pattern 14 became an afterthought to be British made. The need for additional small arms combined with a shortage of spare industrial capacity led the British government to contract with United States commercial arms manufacturers Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone, which was a subsidiary of Remington set up to manufacture the Pattern 14, to produce the P14 for the British government before the United States entered the war in 1917. However, each factory produced slightly differing parts, leading to interchangeability issues.

The majority of the Pattern 14 rifles would be made in the year 1916. The receivers on Eddystone rifles are marked “ERA”. Remington rifles are marked “RE”, and Winchester rifles are marked “WRA” on the receiver. There was a total of 1,235,298 Pattern 14s manufactured by these three contractors, with 400,000 being made by Remington.
