This is an original Ballard action with serial number 18XXX probably made in the late 1870s to early 1880s. The work was done by Monarch Tool Co., Stevensville, Montana. It features a 31" medium weight octagon barrel that measures 7/8" across the flats at the muzzle. The barrel is marked as above. There is no dovetail for a rear sight and the barrel is fitted with a spirit level globe front sight that will take inserts. The receiver and lever have been beautifully and authentically bone-charcoal case colored. It is fitted with double set triggers with adjustment screw. The triggers need an adjustment as the rear "set" trigger clicks when the trigger is pulled, but does not hold- should be an easy fix. The front trigger works fine. The lever is of the traditional loop variety correct for this model. The stock has the traditional checkered steel shotgun butt plate with tear drop over the comb and the forend has a beautifully formed schnable tip. The stock is a fine piece of nicely grained fairly fancy walnut wth deep reddish-brown color. The rifle is also fitted with a mid-range Soule tang sight fully adjustabale for windage and elevation. (The sights alone would cost over $650 to duplicate). A wood wiping rod is mounted under the barrel and held by two correct Ballard style thinbles. Action is tight and the bore is bright and excellent. Overall a beautifully restored/re-barrelled and stocked Ballard Pacific. Weighs approximately 11 1/4 lbs. Would cost a fortune to build one like this from scratch. $3650. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: BALLARD Model: No. 5 PACIFIC Serial Number: 18XXX Barrel Length: 31" OCT.
