Description:
Charles Slotterbek was a superb gun maker from Lakeport CA. He is mentioned in the book California Gunsmiths 1846-1900 by Lawrence Shelton. An identical rifle is shown on page 234. This is a top brake 38-50 Ballard caliber with a 26” barrel. It is 1” flat to flat at the breech and .80 at the muzzle flat to flat. The mechanical function is very good crisp and tight and a nice set trigger. This bore is very good bright and shiny with only a small amount of frosting. The barrel retains 40% blue and the receiver 80% nickel. The stocks are still nicely checkered.
