Description:
Marlin Model 1893 rifle in caliber 32-40 Winchester, "B" grade example with the barrel marked "FOR BLACK POWDER" on the left octagon flat. According to the info in Col. Brophy's big Marlin book, these grade "B" rifles were first introduced in 1905, so the top of the receiver is properly factory drilled and tapped for the Hepburn receiver sight, which was introduced in 1903. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1893" in two lines, with the correct arrows on either side. All the B grade guns had blued receivers, barrels and mag tubes, as this example sports. The barrel is 26" long. The mag tube is tight with no wobble. Receiver exhibits 80% bright original blue. Barrel and mag are 70% original blue drifting to plum in spots with tiny spots of surface oxidation here and there. The original stocks are still tight and proud, no splits or cracks, exhibiting normal dings and scratches from use. The action is smooth, the hammer spring is strong, and the half cock safety functions properly. The hammer and lever retain traces of smoky case colors. The serial number D6425 matches in the bottom of the receiver, on the inside of the butt plate, on the left side of the upper tang, and in the upper tang channel of the butt stock, so this one has been together in this configuration from day one. The bore is mostly bright and shiny with sharp rifling; some scattered junk needs to be cleaned out but this is minor, and for a black powder rifle, it's in great shape, with no pitting. The original rear sight and elevator are intact. The front sight is a Sheard brand. Overall a very nice Marlin collectible rifle.
