This pair is in excellent condition as English refinished with 95% of the brown on the barrels. Excellent case colors remain on the lock, breech plug, tang and butt cap. Almost all of the trigger guards are covered in high luster blue. The stocks are excellent with nice sharp checkering. These guns come in a very fine case with all of the accessories. The interior Purdey label is marked “Captain Nicholson/ 10th Hussars" Christopher Hampden Nicholson purchased a commission in the 10th Roya Regiment of light Dragoons (hussars) on March 3, 1825. In January of 1826, he purchased a Lieutenant’s commission on the Unattached list and then exchanged it with the paymaster of the 10th and returned to the regiment as a lieutenant. The 10th went to Portugal in 1827 for 2 years due to the threat of war with Spain. In 1831, Nicholson purchased a promotion.
