A Collector’s Used Winchester Model 1892 / Model 92 Saddle Ring Carbine in 44-40 / 44 WCF Caliber; Serial Number 81,7XX places Manufacture Date as 1894 -95. This carbine appears to be be refinished owing to the shallow serial number & barrel markings, and the bright uniform blue on nearly all of the metal parts. Upper Tang Markings are Deep and appear unaffected. Rear Sight is a Vintage Step-Elevation Marble's that is Drift-Adjustable for Windage; Front Sight has a Brass Blade. Wood is Straight-Grained, Non-Checkered, Dark with Age, and Good Looking. Some longitudinal and probably age-related cracks that do not hamper the carbine’s function or shootability are visible on the buttstock. The Crescent Steel Blued Buttplate and Blued Barrel Bands appear polished & refinished. A small, old, blued-over nick is present in the bottom edge of the loading gate window. The bore shows nicely preserved rifling with some uniform pitting and no major internal defects. Given the refinished metal, condition – which is close to 95% Refinished Condition - is best judged by the photos. Mechanical functions are tight and secure.
