Description:
"Serial number 903. Made circa 1862. 42 caliber with a 6 ¾" barrel and 16 Gauge with a 6 ½" barrel. This gun is excellent as refinished. This is a nice sharp gun with a bluish to brown restored finish on 98% of the metal. Small inspectors marks remain as well as the barrel address indicating this is a Paris manufacture. The grips are very good. This is a transitional model between the Belgian guns and the Parisian guns. We have also heard the Belgian style guns referd to as the 1st Models and the Parisian guns as the second Models. This gun still has the trigger guard spur on a Parisian gun, so it is a transitional. Action works properly. These guns were invented by Dr. Jean Alexandre LeMat. He was the brother in law of Confederate General P. T. Beauregard. The confederacy issued a contract for 5,000 guns and between 2500 and 3,000 were delivered. Very Neat confederate gun!
