Description:
This LC Smith No. 2E 12-gauge hammerless shotgun was manufactured in November of 1901.  The 28” Damascus-steel barrels, which are in the desirable chain-link pattern, are flawless as professionally refinished using the traditional process of slow-rust-bluing and etching.  The bores are bright and without any pitting.  The color-case-hardening is redone at Viktor’s Legacy in Fairport Harbor, OH.  The engraving is uniformly sharp.  The sidelocks and automatic ejectors are fully functional.  The stock is made of darkly grained English walnut with figure on a multi-tonal background, and is of a higher quality than normally found on No.2 LC Smith guns.  Application of a hand-rubbed stock-oil finish has restored the wood’s natural oils, brought out its true beauty, and serves to protected well it into the future.  The drop at the comb is 1-1/2” and at the heel 2-1/2”.  Length of pull is 14-1/4” to the end of the original butt-plate.  The cast is neutral.

The barrels are choked modified (.020) and full (.030).  The gun has 2-3/4” chambers.  The wall thicknesses (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle are 035/.025/.028 and at the middle of the barrel are .035/.028/.026.  The wall thicknesses for the left barrel are .030/.030/.028 and .032/.030/.029, respectively.  Bores 9” from the breech are both .730”.  The outside diameters at the muzzles are both .800”.  This gun weighs 7 lbs. 4 oz.  The pull of the right trigger is 5-1/2 lbs. and the left 7 lbs.  The gun locks up tight and is on face.  All serial numbers, 6713, match.

The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer.  The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  This shotgun has been fired using shells manufactured by RST Corporation designed for use in Damascus-barreled shotguns.  However, as for any vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her own gunsmith before firing, and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed.  Please do not hesitate to call with questions Steve at 703-625-4830.
