Description:
ONE OF THE RAREST COLT DOUBLE ACTION SIDE-SWING REVOLVERS THAT FEW COLLECTORS ARE AWARE OF IS THIS NEW ARMY/NEW NAVY IN .32-20 CALIBER, #246XXX, MADE 1905! The New Army/New Navy was made in .38 Colt and .41 Colt calibers from 1892-1907. According to The Book of Colt Firearms by R. L. Wilson, starting at serial number 246000 in 1905 the .32-20 caliber was introduced. This serial number wold indicate it was one of the first of this very limited caliber offering that was only offered in this model until it was discontinued in 1907. The New Army/New Navy was then replaced with the updated Army Special Model (the New Army/Navy has a left turning cylinder with long cuts at the rear edge while the Army Special has a modern cylinder without the cuts). Even advanced collectors are not aware of this scarce caliber offering and very few have even seen one as they made very few. Of the few I've encountered, this is one of the earliest and one of the best. It retains about all the deep high polish blue on the frame and cylinder with even the  grip straps and trigger guard showing exc. blue. The 6" barrel has some dulling/flaking more on the rear half that still blends well with the balance. Exc. markings including the rampant colt on the left side of the frame and the barrel address and patent dates ending in '95. Left side of the barrel marked "32 W.C.F." as on Single Action Army revolvers of the time. Exc. hard rubber grips. Tight actionb and exc. bore. Front sight has not been filed, assembly numbers on the cylinder latch, crane and frame match. Deep fire blue on the hammer back and trigger sides. You can search for one of these and never find one! As interest increases in Pre-World War II double action S&W and Colt revolvers, this one is sure to go up in value.
