Description:
WW2 Winchester M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle in 30-06 caliber with a receiver serial number indicating it was manufactured in March 1944. The rifle’s receiver leg is electric pencil marked “RRAD / 11-64” indicating it was rebuilt by the Red River Army Depot in Texas in November 1964.

When the Vietnam War heated up in the mid-1960s, additional M1s in the government’s inventory were needed as supplemental service rifles and for military foreign aid requirements. Several U.S. government ordnance facilities, including Red River Army Depot, were given contracts to overhaul M1s during that period.

Unlike the earlier rebuild markings, which were stamped on the stock, in the mid-1960s the ordnance facilities typically utilized identity codes that were hand-etched on the right side of the receiver leg by electric pen. In most cases, the code was comprised of an abbreviation for the facility ID and the month and year that the rebuild was performed.

These 1960's rebuilds are sought after by collector's today, and this one remains in the same condition as it was received from CMP, I believe around 2005. I’m guessing at the date of acquisition as I can’t find the original CMP paperwork.

Barrel Muzzle Erosion = 1.5  / Throat Erosion = 1.5. There is a small chip on the bottom left of the stock near the trigger inlet and a scratch on the trigger guard which are shown in the last picture.
