James Purdey & Sons best sidelock ejector 20 gauge SxS shotgun.
Made in 1973 and London Proofed 73 this wonderful game gun has 26" chopper lump barrels with a factory 3" chamber. The bores are marked .615" and the chokes are marked IC/ 1/2 and measure accordingly. I measured the bores at .618" and the chokes at .008" & .017" and minimum wall thicknesses of .032".
It is fitted with double triggers and the front trigger articulates. As a best gun it has assisted opening (self-opener). Automatic safety and automatic ejectors.
The handsomely grained straight grip stock has a 15 1/2" LOP over a 1" full leather recoil pad. There is 1 1/2" DAC and 2" DAH with 1/4" cast favoring a right-hand shooter.
I believe that all finishes are original to the gun with about 40% fading case colors on the frame and about 96% slight fading blue on the barrels with slightly more wear on the muzzle. The wood finish is completely intact with no damage or repairs and yet there is handling marks commensurate with the metal finishes.
The gun weighs 6 lbs 1 oz and is a delight between the hands.
Makers case in which the monogram "BTE" is the same as the initials on the bottom of the stock.
Mechanically excellent. Bores perfect. A Purdey best gun that is ready for a new caretaker!
