Description:
ONE OF THE VERY LAST OF THE GREAT 1892 RIFLES, .38-40 ROUND BARREL, #995XXX, MADE 1930. This was the beginning of the Great Depression a year after the 1929 Stock Market Crash. In 1930 Winchester made a total of 491 Model 1892 rifles and carbines combined. For comparison, in 1926 18,898 were produced. After 1930 until the production ceased for World War II in 1941 production for this model never went much higher than 600-800 per year with some years not even reaching 200! Probably more carbines were made during these years making the rifles very scarce and seldom encountered. This one retains most of the deep blue on the barrrel and maagazine. The receiver has flaked to gray which is typical of receivers produced during this time. The bolt retains exc. bright blue. Screw heads are excellent, action is tight with strong safety half-cock. Exc. wood with tight wood to metal fit. Original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Winchester blade front sight. Bright excellent bore. These Great Depression Era 1892s rarely show up.
