Description:
SELDOM OFFERED 1899 KRAG PHILIPPINE CONSTABULARY RIFLE. These interesting carbine/rifles started out as .30-40 caliber Model 1899 Krag Carbines. They were then pulled from service and fitted into cut down 1898 rifle stocks to make them into "short rifles" for the Philippine Constabulary. The muzzles were turned down to accept bayonets and the end of the stock under the front barrel band/bayonet attachment were perfectly fitted with rectangular walnut fillers. This is a good way to tell if the rifle is a real Philippine Constabulary rifle or something made-up to look like one.  When done by the arsenal the turned down muzzle and wood filler are done expertly. Also, the action needs to be dated 1899 (only used on carbines). This fine example shows fine stock and handguard with the cartouche remaining on the wrist with circle P on bottom and a rack numbet stamped in the wood under the bolt handle (K115). This area also has a faint hair-line crack coming back from the box magazine that goes nowhere and the wood is solid- looks like a scratch. Mottled receiver with fine markings and thinning blue barrel. Exc. bright bore.
