This is an early Single Shot Bar Hammer pistol manufactured by the Manhattan Firearms Manufacturing Company with production in Norwich, CT but marked as New York. Among the earliest of guns produced by them these double action pistols were built from 1856 into the late 1850's. The example has extensive engraving on the frame with two dogs on one side and one off the other. It is also inscribed to "J. E. Irwin" on the left barrel facet. In fine overall condition the barrel shows much of the original brown finish and the frame is mostly pewter gray with excellent markings on the hammer. There is a break in the grip frame at the tension screw (See Photo). The action functions properly with a weak return of the trigger. The Ivory grips rate about excellent. A very good looking example of a scarce Bar Hammer Manhattan boot or pocket pistol. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
