Payment Types Accepted: Cashiers Check or Modey Order Description: Here is a Plant revolver manufactured in New Haven, Connecticut in the mid 1860's. Its chambered in 42 cup fire and is the third model with the brass frame. The serial number range for the third model is 700 to just over 8000, making this and early one. In the mid 1860's Smith and Wesson had the patent rights for the bored through cylinder. In order to not infringe in the patent, Plant revolvers bored their cylinders almost all the way through, using a special cup primed metallic cartridge that loaded from the front of the cylinder. This revolver functions correctly has has very little of the original silver plating on the brass frame. In the 1860's, Samuel J Hoggson was engraving the early Henry Rifles at the New Haven Arms factory. He also did freelance work which may account for the engraving on this gun. The revolver is engraved with the grape vine pattern and fancy scroll work. The grape leaves are all over the gun along with the grape vines, leaves, and grapes. There is also fancy scroll work on the top barrel that looks like th scroll work on the top of the frames of many of the Henry Rifles. The border on the front of the cylinder is in the style of the borders on the rifles. Unfortunately the records for the Plant Revolvers are lost so I can't verify is was done by the master, Samuel J Hoggson. This revolver would look great displayed along side your engraved Henry Rifle. This gun is an antique so it can ship direct to you. Shipping is $35 to the continuous States.
