Description:
Joseph Jakob was a fine gunmaker operating out of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, from 1869-1876. Once known as "The Purdey of America", Jakob produced a number of fine sporting arms, including pistols, shotguns and double rifles, such as the one here. The overall condition of this fine double rifle is very good, the stocks show significantly less wear than their age would suggest and the metalwork shows only superficial corrosion on the sides of the barrels. The craftsmanship of this rifle is truly evident in the action work and the fitment of the stocks, if the slight corrosion wasn't present, one would gladly hold this rifle side by side with any firearm from one of the English makers.
