Description:
For your consideration, a Smith & Wesson 38/44 Heavy Duty chambered in .38 Special. Before the advent of .357 Magnum, S&W developed the .38/44 reflexive to calls by law enforcement for sidearms capable of defeating body armor and penetrating auto body paneling. Built on the venerable N-Frame, the .38/44's were capable of firing both conventional .38 Special and specialized, higher pressure loads comparable to modern +P loads. Revolvers of this type were available as the "Heavy Duty" with fixed sights, and as the "Outdoorsman" with adjustable. While rendered ballistically obsolete by its successor, the Registered Magnum, the .38/44 line has all the fine workmanship emblematic of its limited era of production. This is a 5-screw gun dating to 1957. The grips have been refinished. .38 Special
