Another Used High Condition Sharps Borchardt; Magnificently Restored in 40-70 Sharps Straight Caliber; Serial Number 182XX; 28-Inch; Slightly Tapered Full Octagon Original Barrel with Flat-Crowned Muzzle. A Mixed Box of more the 40 Loaded Cartridges & Formed Cases are Included as follows: 20 from Buffalo Arms Headstamped “JBA  40-70 SS” [18 loaded + 2 Primed Cases]; -and- 22 Formed and Rim-Turned from 30-40 Krag Headstamped “R-P  30-40 KRAG” [16 loaded + 6 new, unprimed, formed cases]. The Beautiful Case Colors on the Receiver and Action Parts look like the work of Al Story (and family) of New Mexico. They, unfortunately, do not keep serialized records of restorations. Their Borchardt Rifle Company is <://rugercyl/> The Receiver is marked on its left side in five lines “BORCHARDT’S PATENT / SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT CONN. / U.S.A. / 182XX / PAT. DEC. 1876”. The Top Barrel Flat is Marked “Old Reliable” in Script within an Octagon Border; and “SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT CONN.” The bore has only mild to moderate, even pitting with well-preserved lands & grooves. The Nicely-Figured Straight-Grain Stock and Schnabel Forend are Smooth, Uncheckered and Well-Fitted to the Action & Barrel with Artistic-Lined Transitions. There’s a Coarse Border-Checkered Niedner Buttplate; Case-Colored Trigger & Safety; Combination Open-V + Ladder Rear Sight with Range Scale marked in three lines: “R.S. LAWRENCE / PATENTED / FEB. 15TH 1859”; Drift Adjustable Brass-Blade Front Sight; and the top tang is drilled for a tang sight. There’s a tiny little crack in the wood behind the top tang. Not being dealers or experts, we estimate the Restored Condition as 98 Percent, approximately.
