Description:
Colt Model 1861 Navy.  Approximately 38,000 of these were manufactured by Colt.  Serial number 14241 was manufactured in 1863. It's not a government issue but did this gun take out a "Gray Back" or "Blue Belly"?  At Gettysburg?  We all wish we knew most the time but that's part of the fun of it. This model is based on the 1851(36cal.) but has the round barrel that is tapered toward the breech area and also has the “creeping” style loading lever. Both of which are found on the 1860 Army.  Due to these features, in many publications and in part of the Colt community, the 1861 was noted as the most handsome of the Colt percussion revolvers. It retained the “belt model” caliber & size of the 1851 versus the larger .44 Army.  This gun is overall gray in color. The surfaces have some staining with pin prick pitting mostly on the barrel. There is some partial cylinder naval scene of sails & waves remaining. Not a lot, see photos. Colt’s Patent No. remains on cylinder. Has a worn serial number. Under a magnifying glass… I “think” there is a partial digit or two. But I have to say the serial no. has worn off. The overall condition of the gun surfaces are equally balanced.  The rest of the gun has sharp matching numbers….wedge & pin included. The barrel address and Colt’s Patent on the frame, like the serial numbers are sharp/crisp. The grips are very good with some dings with an approximately 1” in length scratch on right grip. The action works fine and locks up tight. Included is a nice holster. Appears later than the gun. Holster I’ve been told is a SAA holster circa 1870’s,80’s . A great fit of the gun/holster. …….The posted photos are clear. They should answer some questions.  Honoring 3 day inspection. Buyer pays 25.00 insurance & shipping. Good opportunity I believe. Thanks.
