SCARCE THOMPSON-CENTER HAWKEN COUGAR HALF-STOCK PERCUSSION RIFLE IN RARE .45 CALIBER. This was a limited run of the standard Hawken rifle with medalion in the butt stock and French grey furniture and "COUGAR" marked on the .28" oct. barrel. They were also fitted with fancy walnut. This one displays high grade "burly" walnut in the butt stock. Most of these rifles were made in .50 caliber and this is the first I've seen in .45. Economical round balls for small game, target and plinking or put a Maxi-Ball (bullet) with a hefty charge of black powder and it equals the powerful .45-90 cartridge- really a very under-appreciated versatile muzzle loading caliber. This beautiful all American made rifle is in about new condition and appears to have seen no use. The Cougar is hard to find in .50 caliber, but especially rare in .45.
