Benelli sets a new standard for semiautomatic hunting rifles with the R1 Endurance. It‚‚s action is almost identical to Benelli‚‚s M4 shotguns used by the U.S. Marines, giving the R1 Endurance exceptional reliability. This action is adapted for use with centerfire rifle cartridges, but utilizes the same auto-regulating, gas-operated (A.R.G.O.) system and three-lug rotary bolt that the M4 uses. The gas cylinder is positioned to allow for a short operating rod, resulting in a dramatic reduction in felt recoil when compared to other rifles of the same caliber. The barrel of the R1 Endurance is free-floating to promote greater accuracy, and is treated with Benelli‚‚s Cryo system. This cryogenic treatment helps relieve the stress caused by the hammer forging process, creates a smoother, more uniform surface, and enables the barrel to stay cleaner for longer.
