A very elegantly engraved Belgium Browning B.A.R. chambered in .270 Winchester. These Grade IV guns were made in 3 "Lots" or "Variations"
1970-1975/76 (M Series Guns): Very few produced, fully hand engraved, good wood and finish quality that you would expect from high grade Belgium made Brownings
1977-1979: These were the years where all other grades outside of the I and IV were discontinued, these guns were acid etched and the quality of the materials seemed to suffer. This was also at the height of the engravers strike and why you will notice that most all guns from these years are signed by J. Bague.
1980-1984: These guns began to much more resemble the "Custom Shop" era of Browning. The metal and wood finish quality of this era is impeccable. The engraving is extremely well detailed, painstakingly executed, and complimented very well by the higher quality metallic finish of the receiver.
This information is based on my experience with the guns having owned/handled/observed about 20 in the last 10 years. The dates are not set in stone but in general are correct to the best of my knowledge.
This particular example really exemplifies the quality of the last batch of Grade IV BARs they made. Just outstanding in every regard, you will look for a long time to find one comparable! Condition is excellent with only a few very faint handling marks, I would call it a 98% gun
