Introduced in 1955, the Winchester Model 88 was a radical departure from all other Winchester lever-actions with four major differences: 1. Forward-locking rotating bolt. The detachable box magazine, which fed more aerodynamic sharp-pointed bullets, unsafe in tubular magazines. 2. The solid-top receiver that allows conventional scope mounting. 3. The attractive one-piece stock, an attribute not just for looks but perhaps the greatest visual difference. 4.
