Brief Company History:
The Manhattan Arms Company was a significant player in the firearms industry during the mid-19th century. Founded in 1856, it was based in Newark, New Jersey. The company quickly gained prominence for its innovative designs and quality craftsmanship, particularly in the realm of revolvers and pistols.
Manhattan Arms Co. was a direct competitor to other renowned firearm manufacturers of the time, including Colt, Remington, and Smith & Wesson. Their firearms, including the pocket pistols, were highly regarded for their reliability and effectiveness, earning them popularity among both civilian and military markets.
The Manhattan Arms Co. Pocket Revolver featured a unique design with a very close copy of the Smith & Wesson 1st model 1st and 2nd issue .22cal revolvers
Despite their popularity, Manhattan Arms Co. pistols were produced in relatively limited quantities compared to some of their competitors. The estimated production figure of around 2800 units adds to their rarity and collectibility.

Condition: # 1/8” barrel in 22RF short with a nice bore , some minor pitting and shows 3 groove rifling. Metal surfaces have turned to a nice antique grey metal patina. Tip-up barrel is nicely engraved. Top of barrel is marked MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS/MANUFG./CO.N.Y. in an arc motif. This model a brass circular frame plate. The original walnut grips are in very good condition with the usual dings and minor scratches typical with the age of this revolver. Mechanically works excellent . Lock-up has a tiny bit of play with really nice timing and a strong hammer spring. All numbers are matching and barrel markings are clear and legible.   Also included is a nice presentation case with a box of Vintage .22RF short ammo

Due to their historical significance, limited production numbers, and association with the Civil War, Manhattan Arms Co. pistols and revolvers are highly sought after by collectors of antique firearms. This represents a very fine example of a rare revolver.
