After apprenticing with Thomas Mortimer in 1830, Henry established his own business in 1852 at 12 South St Andrew Street, focusing primarily on rifle production. John Dickson In 1860, Henry patented a unique rifling system featuring a seven-groove pattern, which significantly enhanced rifle accuracy. This innovation was later incorporated into the Martini-Henry rifle, adopted by the British Army in 1871. Vintage Guns Although Henry concentrated on rifles, he also produced high-quality shotguns. His firearms were esteemed by royalty and sportsmen alike; notably, Queen Victoria commissioned a double-barreled rifle from him as a gift for her personal attendant, John Brown. Edinburgh Museums Despite his professional achievements, Henry's life was marked by personal tragedies, including the accidental death of his son James in 1860. He continued to innovate and influence the firearms industry until his death in 1894.
