For a couple of years - 1967/68 - Beretta produced their Model 424 shotguns for Chas. Daly to be marketed as the Empire Grade. They were made as 12ga, 16ga, and 20ga. I own and shoot two of the guns in 20ga. They are great guns.
Some years ago, I had a Beretta Garcia GR-3 with desirable 30" barrels that was about perfect - except it was missing the forearm. Knowing that the CD Empire had the same forearm, I purchased a couple of them at shows to find a forearm. SO, now I have one perfectly good gun (GUN 1) and one gun missing a forearm (GUN 2). I think with very little smithing, you could have two barrel set with an extra butt stock and an additional receiver as a parts kit / backup.
GUN 1:
1967 - Beretta 424 / Chas. Daly Empire - 12ga 26-1/2" 3" Mag, Extractors, Choked IC / IC (.009 / .009), LOP 14-1/2", Drop 1-1/2" to 2-1/4", Slight Cast Off, Weight 7 bls. 0 oz. Nice Solid Used Gun. All numbers match. Chokes have been opened. NOTHING wrong with this gun.
GUN 2:
1967 - Beretta 424 / Chas. Daly Empire - 12ga 28" 3" Mag, Extractors, Choked LM / IM (.013 / .030), LOP 15", Drop 1-1/2" to 2-1/2", Neutral Cast. Mechanically Good Gun. Just missing the forearm. Lots of scratches in finish, but not deep.
