Description:
This is a rare MK IV Series 80 Government Model Enhanced, chambered in th 9x23Win cartridge.  Colt only made this pistol for one year in this caliber (1997).  Launched in 1996, the 9×23 Winchester cartridge was aimed squarely at IPSC/USPSA competitions where competitor’s cartridges had to meet a minimum power factor or face scoring penalties.  The 9×23 Winchester had a reinforced case-wall to handle pressures up to 55,000 psi as well as being a rimless case. The additional pressure would also give an advantage to those using compensators as it allowed their vents to generate more force to reduce recoil and keep the pistol on target for fast double-taps. Due to the effect of the power factor on scores, “making major” was an important competitive edge.

The MK IV Series 80 Government Model Enhanced pistol has many of the common upgrades found on custom 1911 pistols including a beavertail grip safety, under-cut trigger guard, and skeletonized hammer. The right side of the slide is marked ”COLT GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The left side of the slide is marked “COLT MK IV / -SERIES 80-” with the rampant colt. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. / FR19825E”. The barrel is marked “-9 x 23 WIN-”. The forward right side of the trigger guard is marked with a “1″, while the forward left side is stamped with the stylized “VP” Colt Verified Proof Mark. The floorplate of the two included magazines are marked with a rampant colt and “COLT / 9 x 23 WIN / M”. The front sight is a blade with a recessed white dot staked to the slide. The rear sight is a square notch with two recessed white dots dovetailed into the slide. The top of the slide has a full-length rib which is matte finished to reduce glare. The grip is a one-piece checkered black rubber wraparound grip with silver-colored Colt medallions on each side. The grip has no notable wear or damage, there are no rips or tears. The checkering is sharp. Overall, the grip, like the rest of this gun, is in  As New condition.

This pistol looks for all the world like it was purchased and then put away. This handgun retains 99%+ of its metal finish. There is no notable wear or damage. The screw heads are sharp and appear unturned. The markings are clear. There is no "take down lever scar" on the left side of the frame...I doubt that this firearm has ever been disassembled. Overall, this handgun is in Like New condition and appears to be unfired.  The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. The original hangtag is still on the trigger guard. The luster of the bluing on the flats of the slide is of a quality known to Colt fans everywhere, the magazines show no sign of use. This would make a great addition to any 1911 collection as the 9×23 Winchester Colts saw a very limited production run. While this pistol in its high condition is likely of greater interest to collectors, it would also make a fine defensive pistol.  No box or paperwork are included with the sale.
