Description: This swivel breech percussion 2-barrel rifle was handcrafted by Charles Roth gunsmith from Wlkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Some background information is below. This rifle has only been lightly cleaned and lubricated by us. We have made no conservation or restoration efforts to the rifle. With so much craftsmanship and detail in this rifle, you are encouraged to zoom in on any and all of the photos included. More photos are available on request. Muzzle measurements: 0.449 on the lands, .471 on the grooves. For its age, this rifle is in exceptional condition with a dark brown blend on the barrels. The woodgain is very fancy curly maple that has darkened with age. We have made no attempts to lighten this. This gun is a fine representative of early American firearms borrowing much of its form from the famous American long rifle and a very attractive example of Roth's work. Both barrels are in the .45 caliber range (please see dimensions above) and have traditional low-profile blade and notch sights. Both barrels are rifled. One is stamped "CHAs ROTH" and "the other "WILKES BARRE (PA)" on the top flat between the rear sight and breech. The barrel release is on the left, and it is equipped with double set triggers that are adjustable and in excellent working condition, a slender maple stock, and one ramrod. We welcome face-to-face inspection of this fine firearm. Background Information per ://rockisland Charles Roth (Christian Charles Roth, 1815-1903) was born in Germany and was active in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, by around 1840 after arriving in the U.S in 1837. Similarities between Roth's work and Nicholas Hawk's are noteworthy. Hawk lived just south of Roth and died in 1844. This same patch box design, for example, is known on Hawk's rifles, and the basic layout of their swivel breech guns are similar. Roth is reported in the March 28, 1902, "Wilkes-Barre Record" as having locked up his gunshop and joined the home guards upon learning of Lee's invasion in 1862. He returned to his shop after the war and left it in the hands of his son when he retired in 1887. We accept USPS Money Order, cashier’s check, or credit card for immediate shipping.
