Description:
Very scarce, completely original PRE WAR configured Model 70 in famed 30-06 caliber that remains in very high condition.
S/N 55007 with matching scribed bolt, issued in 1946, but of 100% Pre WWII components and finishes.
Close to 97% original finishes throughout with no notable issues, just some typical light patina and minimal handling marks.
The wood is of above average quality with some subtle but beautiful grain figure showing in the buttstock.
Minty bore and flawless mechanical function as usual.
Some very important characteristics that can not be fully seen in pics, but have been inspected and verified are as follows:
The rear receiver bridge remains undrilled!..The barrel channel remains completely unaltered with no glass bedding or routing...The factory installed Lyman 48WJS receiver sight was commonly issued during this era. It functions perfectly and has all matching component #s. There has never been a 22 series rear sight placed on this rifle as clearly evidenced by a lack of any elevator track whatsoever on top of the barrel. The barrel's rear sight dovetail also has the correct Lyman 12S filler blank in place.
A very fine and respectable example of the increasingly difficult to find Pre War 70; the true standard by which ALL other sporting rifles are judged.
