Description:
EXTREMELY EARLY SERIAL NUMBER 1911 U.S. ARMY .45ACP, #24XXX, SHIPPED TO SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MARCH 14, 1913 (as listed by serial nuber in Goddard's book THE GOVERNMENT MODELS). Unaltered with the right side of the slide marked "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the left side of the frame. Last patent date on the slide is Feb. 14, 1911. All markings sharp. Frame sides show good blue with light edge wear and gray  mainly on the back strap. The slide shows good aged and thinning blue with no evidence of any cleaning etc. Bright blue on the trigger and all of the more protected portions of the frame and slide. Sharp rampant colt stamping on the rear of the slide. Unaltered sights, very fine diamond checkered walnut grips, lanyard loop on the bottom of the frame intact. Unmarked two-tone magazine. Bright exc. bore, exc. mech. and fully functioning safeties. It would be hard to find an earlier example. This one has seen some use and holster carry, but no abuse. Lots of history in this fine 1911.
