AUTHENTIC STYLED JEDEDIAH SMITH .54 CALIBER PERCUSSION HAWKEN RIFLE BY WESTERN ARMS, SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO. These were made in the late 1970s in conjunction with Uberti. They were intended to be authentic styled rifles of higher quality than normally imported at the time. The Hawken was offered in .50 or .54 caliber with a higher priced rifle marked on the barrel "JEDEDIAH SMITH 1799-1831" and on the upper tang in script "No. 1XX OF ONE THOUSAND." (Jedediah Smith was one of the more famous mountain men of the fur trade era). There is a ton of info on these excellent rifles online. This example has seen little use aside from some minor handling marks and has an excellent bright bore. The barrel is approx. 32" X 1" at the muzzle and weighs approx. 9 1/2 lbs. Browned barrel, lock plate, butt plates, double set triggers with adjustment screw offset by highly polished blue trigger guard and hammer. Deep reddish brown walnut stock with double wedge forend. A class act.
