Superb Original Winchester Model 70 Sporting Rifle C. 1941
Offered here for sale and just acquired is this factory original Winchester Model 70 in .30-06. Manufactured in 1941 with serial number 36961, it represents a fantastic opportunity for a collector. It remains in nearly original, untouched condition, retaining approximately 90-92% of its original finish. For the really serious Winchester collector this specimen would be termed a Type I-4 which fits into its serial number range. The rifle features a 24-inch barrel and an original Wyman sight, along with its adjustable rear target sight. Although the rear sight has been detached by the previous owner, with a Lyman slot blank- the envelope for the blank when we acquired it contains the original adjustable rear sight and are included. Should the buyer wish the original to be reinstalled we will easily do so.
The only noticeable wear to the barrel is a slight long wear mark on the top of the barrel and the only substantial loss of bluing is on the trigger guard which retains about 50% of its finish. The matte finish on the top of the receiver is proper and is 100% intact, and the original checkering on the pistol grip and forearm is well-preserved. Additionally, the rifle bears the correct double Winchester factory inspector marks on the left side of the stock. The original stock has numerous light use marks but is very solid.
The rifle when acquired was well preserved with oil and images show traces of dried oil in places. WE WILL FULLY CLEAN BEFORE SHIPPING.
This rifle also comes with a vintage sling in very good condition, adding further appeal for collectors. It would be a highly valuable addition to any Winchester collection, especially considering its historical significance as a pre-World War II firearm. The only item it requires to be fully original is a hood for the front sight easily obtainable.
Given its age and fine condition, this rifle is an excellent acquisition for any serious Winchester collector. L74
