This rifle has a 1-18 dated "SA" stamped barrel with "A" surcharge mark beneath the date. The metal retains 70-75% of the original blue finish with gray fading along the high and exposed edges, as well as mottled plum-brown freckling on the receiver and rear sight base (an early type 1905 rear sight with platinum wire sight lines is installed). The bolt has additional fading on the bearing surfaces, and some further fading is present on the floorplate. The walnut stock and handguard are in fine shape with minor handling marks and small surface blemishes scattered throughout the otherwise excellent reapplied oil finish. The "D.A.L." (Daniel A. Leary) cartouche is still crisp and clear on the left side, as is the "P (in circle)" firing proof on the underside. This is a very nice WW1 era Model 1903, and would make a fine addition to any collection. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
