( SOLD, Gary W. ) This is a very clean, nice looking Winchester Model 1873. Made in 1882, it is a fairly early 3rd model, serial number under 100k, no caliber markings as they were all chambered for the 44-40 at this time. This rifle has a 24" round barrel, a half, or button magazine and crescent butt. The bore is very, very good - near excellent, with strong square lands the whole way and just a few scattered pin prick marks in the grooves. The action is crisp and positive, it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. I have fired this rifle a few times with very mild cartridges suited to the antique 1873, it shoots well and about dead on at 50 yds. The rear sight is the early '73 type from this era. The wood is unsanded, solid and tight with a great reddish color. There is a noticeble gouge in the lower right side of the buttstock, and several other minor scratches and areas of wear. The receiver appears to have been professionally refinished at some point - yet it retains crisp edges and very sharp, clear lettering and numbers. The barrel looks like it had some type of solvent on it at some time that left a mottled appearance to some of the blueing. The barrel address and patent is excellent and crisp. Overall this is a sharp looking '73 in a configuration not often seen. ***** This is an 'antique" and can ship to most places - I am a FFL, and must adhere to all state laws - NJ, and other areas may require a FFL for transfer.
