Description:
This percussion rifle has been in my family since about 1895. I have had it since 1968 from my grandfather that was given by paternal great-grandfather living in Vicksburg, MS. As I understand it a cousin stepped on the rifle while crossing a creek on the Vicksburg battle ground about 1895. I have never touched it nor fired it yet. But at 79 years old I had better hurry to do that.  As can be seen the gun has not been tampered with for more than 100 years. It is as is. The rifle has a provision for a name on the barrel but little can be seen of what if anything was there. The overall length is about 60" and the barrel which appears to be a .50 cal measures 43 ½".  It has a double set trigger. Interesting is that at the muzzle the barrel swells in OD. Diameter. Handy but then I don't know guns of this era. It may be a way of identification. But this is all I know about it.
