32472- RARE COLT 1ST MODEL 1ST ISSUE U.S. CAVALRY DRAGOON REVOLVER CIRCA 1848. One of the first 2000 Colt 1st Model Dragoons issued to the U.S. Cavalry and the 1st and 2nd Dragoons in 1849 many of the latter serving in the west. Percussion .44 caliber six-shot revolver with 7 ½” barrel addressed “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY”. Serial number “2772” and all matching with exception of the lever and wedge which are original 1st Model field replacements. Frame Ordnance stamped “U.S.” below “COLT’S/PATENT” on the left side. Faint trace of the worn Ordnance cartouche can be made out at the base of the left side of the grips. Rarely seen for sale these early 1st issue 1ST Model U.S. Dragoons saw heavy service and have a low survival rate. Most often seen heavily used this one is far above average with nice sharp edges and lovely original patina on metal and grips. Rare and historic Colt Dragoon. $7500
