About Us: First of all, thank you for your interest in my listing. I am an FFL Dealer in Connecticut, as well as a collector. The business name, Warthog Arms, is derived from my Air Force service as an avionic tech on A-10 Thunderbolts (also known as the Warthog). I always strive to go the extra mile to ensure a very satisfying transaction and have an established, trustworthy reputation. I also use GB for listings so if you would like to view my feedback, you can look me up in Advanced Search under Warthog-Arms. My current rating there is A+(160).

Description:
For your consideration is a Japanese Arisaka Type 99 “Last Ditch” Nagoya Arsenal rifle chambered in 7.7mm Jap (7.7x58mm). It is the standard short rifle, 44” overall with a 26” barrel.

By 1944 the war was not going well for the Japanese and their production resources were becoming more limited - they desperately cut corners to keep up production.

These late WW2 rifles are characterized by crude machining/finishing/welding, fixed rear peep sight, simplified bolt handle, one-screw sling swivels, welded safety, and a tacked wooden butt plate. They did not even make a provision for a cleaning rod!

This rifle is in very good original condition. It has some typical handling marks as shown. The Mum is defaced but not ground off. There are no import marks, so likely a G.I. “bring back”. It is missing the tang bolt behind the trigger guard, easy enough to find one. Perhaps they skipped this too…

Serial numbers on bolt, extractor and receiver match. Bayonet lug was not numbered in this series. I did not disassemble the rifle to check the barrel number, but I’m quite certain it’s correct.

The stock and hand guard are in VG+ condition with minor handling marks and original finish. It is rock solid with no splits or cracks.

The bore is fairly bright with shallow rifling and some pitting, it may benefit from a thorough cleaning.

Mechanically functions great, with tight action and crisp trigger.

Overall, a nice and original example of a World War II Japanese “Last Ditch” rifle for your collection or shooting pleasure!
