Description:
For your consideration, a Martini action Schützen style rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. Features include an articulated stock, set triggers, and a baroquely hooked action lever. The gorgeously figured furniture is appointed with a leathered, cushioned buttpad, sling swivels, a generous cheekpiece, and checkering at wrist and forend. Sighting consists of a Lyman peep rear and Redfield globe front supplemented by Unertl type scope bases. The case colored action, lever, forend escutcheon, and breechblock are all hand-engraved. Besides those on the Remington barrel of decidedly later addition, the only markings are a serial and "D.R.G.M." circling the stock hinge pin on both sides of the receiver. D.R.G.M. stands for Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster, an Imperial German patent registration office active 1891-1949. This rifle features the system covered under entry #217361 issued to an F. W. Kessler of Suhl entailing a channel bored through the breechblock and rear receiver wall of Martini action rifles; thereby facilitating breech-to-muzzle cleaning rod usage. On this example, the stock is articulated to hinge slightly upwards to align the channel in the receiver with those in the breechblock and bore. The stock is not loosely jointed, however, as adequate spring tension keeps the stock in the position necessary for firing. .30-06 Springfield
